Using SalesLink Mobile software, orders are electronically produced on a Symbol handheld with a laser barcode reader for increased accuracy. Orders are transmitted to head office across the Telecom Mobile Jetstream packet network and then imported into their Accredo Mercury accounting system.

Introduction

Kleenpak Northland is a leading distributor of packing and cleaning supplies based in the lifestyle location of Haruru Falls in the Bay of Islands. They have built a reputation for providing excellent service, reliability and integrity.

They have a vast range of products and aim to be a one-stop shop for customers in their sector. They have 3 salespeople covering a territory from Kaitaia down to Wellsford.


Company Background

The company started as a husband and wife team, taking orders during the day and then entering the orders into their accounting system, picking and packing ready for dispatch by courier the following morning. This meant that while they were providing a good service, they did not have the lifestyle that they desired, living in such an idyllic location.

As the business grew, they employed 3 salespeople, who hand wrote orders and got them back to head office by 4:30 each day. This meant that there was still an evening ahead of picking and packing to get the orders out first thing the next morning.


Business Operation

Kleenpak invested in SalesLink Mobile and equipped their salespeople with Symbol handheld Computers equipped with laser barcode readers so they could take orders electronically, improving speed and accuracy. These communicate with head office via Kyocera cell phones running on the Telecom CDMA Mobile Jetstream network.

Minutes after the order has been taken out in the field, it arrives at the SalesLink Server and is transferred automatically to their Accredo Mercury accounting software. Picking slips and invoices can be produced immediately, and goods can be packed and out the door sometimes within half an hour of the order being taken.

"We're processing between 200-300 invoices per day. If I didnt have SalesLink Mobile I would have to have an additional one and a half people employed."

Graham sets high standards and believes that having a good product range is only part of the equation. Now he is able to provide a quality of service that has made Kleenpak a leader in the industry. In many cases they now provide better service in other towns such as Whangarei than incumbent suppliers, resident in those locations, all from their lifestyle location near Paihia.

In fact, the combination of speedy service, with reduced paperwork and increased accuracy and efficiency resulted in Kleenpak winning the Telecom Excellence in Technology Award (Northland Chamber of Commerce Westpac Business Excellence Awards) In 2003.
