Introduction
Welding Supplies Limited is one of New Zealand's leading privately owned welding trade suppliers.

The company is owned by Tom and Tracey Bailey and has previously been operating as Independent Welding Supplies (Auckland) for twenty years Tom and Tracey purchased the business four years ago.

Tom is a fitter welder by trade with more than twenty years in engineering. He has been involved with large and small engineering projects and has a wealth of knowledge in the industry.

Company Background
Rudducks have sales reps covering all states. Their reps operated in the traditional role of calling on customers and taking hand written orders. To speed up the time taken at each sales call, the reps would often spend 1-2 hours at home each night writing their orders out in full, before then faxing them through to head office.

Even then , errors would occur and customers could get delivery of products they hadn't ordered.

Business Operation

Welding Supplies have two main areas of operation. An online shop and Tom, who gets out in the field calling on customers and taking their orders.They have a large customer base and sell over 600 products Tom calls on customers and records all necessary details in less than 5 minutes.

At month end Tom has transferred the orders into MYOB and then sets the invoice and statement run from MYOB Accounting. Tom utilises a number of features within SalesLink. History for the past 3 months is held on his Palm 600 Treo, so Tom can recall this history and repeat the order with the ability to add and edit items as necessary. Tom also uses the recall history function to create a standing template for customers.

This allows Tom to select a customer and then have an option to use a template for that customer, so that the stock items are already pre-selected.

Templates are an optional feature, so if Tom still wants to process a one off order for that customer he can, but just as easily for many of his customers their buying requirements are consistent so the template option is really efficient.

In the field the benefits are instant. Tom utilises different pricing levels for trade and retail, and when he selects a customer he knows he's invoicing them at the correct price.

The monthly processing of paper has disappeared "I've saved a whole weekend every month," says Tom " and with young kids this is really important to me.
